Sportssportcat writes: Home Runs Fly At Milan on April 6

Milan scored three times in the fifth inning, and tacked on an insurance tally in the sixth frame of an April 6, 2004 varsity baseball game at Milan. Cody Weter hit two home runs for Milan and Drew Couch did likewise for Knox County (2-3). The Wildcats scored 19 runs on 16 hits. Knox County plated 15 runs on 15 hits.

The teams traded three run first innings. Cody Couch had a two RBI single to key the KCHS top half of inning one. Jordan Shultz knocked in the game's first run with a one out single. Cody Weter belted a two run homer in the first inning off Knox County starting hurler Ty Parrish.

The game was filled with clutch hitting on both sides. Addison Hunziker had a two out two run single in the Knox County second inning. Josh McCabe answered with a run producing hit in the bottom of the second. Knox County held a 5-4 advantage after two innings of play.

Drew Kutcher and Cody James had two out RBI hits in a two run Eagle third inning. Milan responded with five tallies in their half of the inning. Cody Weter hit a grand slam home run over the fence, lifting the Wildcats to a 9-7 lead after three innings. Jordan Shultz relieved on the mound after a walk and a single followed the Weter home run. Shultz walked Dirk VanIngen to load the bases, but Shultz fanned Nick Smith to retire the side.

Knox County chased Milan starter Shaun Forrester from the hill with a six run fifth inning. Drew Couch led off the inning with a solo shot home run, and tied the game at 15 all with a grand slam home run off Wildcat reliever Blake Maulsby. Jordan Shultz and Addison Hunziker had RBI hits for the Eagles during the uprising.

Cody Weter, Darren Gregson and Dirk VanIngen had Milan hits during a three run Wildcat fifth inning. Josh McCabe reached on a fielder's choice and scored the game's final run in the Milan sixth inning.

Blake Maulsby struck out the side after Knox County put runners on first and second base with none out in the KCHS sixth. The Wildcats pulled off a 6-4-3 double play in the top of the seventh inning. Blake Maulsby fanned his fiffh batter of the contest in 2 2/3 innings of work to record the victory in relief.

Cody Weter had two home runs, was 3-5 at the plate with four runs scored and six driven in to pace the Milan attack. Josh VanDusseldorp and Dirk VanIngen had three Milan hits each.

Jordan Shultz struck out three batters in 2 1/3 innings pitched, and was tagged with the defeat in relief. Addison Hunziker drove in three Knox County runs. Drew Couch was 2-5 at the plate with two runs scored and drove in five Eagle runs. Cody Couch was 3-4 batting with a run scored and two driven in. Drew Kutcher was 3-5 with three Knox County runs scored and one batted in. Cody James was 3-4 at the dish with two runs scored and another driven in.

The Eagles and Schuyler County have a conference game on Thursday, April 8 scheduled at Lancaster.
