USDA officials will be in the KMEM area Tuesday to announce funding they have made available for a number of projects.

To kick things off this coming Tuesday, USDA Officials will be in Kahoka to announce a Certificate of Award for Fire and Rescue–five units of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus with extra cylinders for the City fire department.

Officials will then head for the Scotland County Courthouse to award a Certificate of Recognition for funding the purchase of a new patrol vehicle to enhance and improve preparedness and day-to-day operations.  The patrol vehicle will improve the safety and quality of life for the 4,983 residents in Scotland County.

Then, USDA State Director Janie Dunning, USDA Area Representatives and other officials will head out to Scotland County Hospital where they will participate in the ribbon cutting for the newly expanded and remodeled 10-million dollar Hospital and Surgery Center. 

Tours of the facility will be offered from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., with the official ribbon cutting at 5:00 p.m..

Over the years Fischer and the KMEM staff have been honored by the Associated Press for contributing news stories, and by the Missouri State Teacher's Association for news coverage of education topics. Fischer was named in February of 2012 to the University of Missouri's prestigious Leader's Roll of Honor for his support of University of Missouri Extension programs. Fischer and the KMEM staff were recognized by Missouri Lt. Governor Joe Maxwell's office for their committment to volunteerism when KMEM was named Missouri's Number One Small Market Station of the Year a few years ago, in recognition of their committment to promoting Volunteerism. Fischer is a 1981 Graduate of Iowa Wesleyan College, Mt. Pleasant, IA, where he graduated with a B.A. Degree in Theatre Arts/English and a strong background in Communications. Fischer has been a member of the Iowa Wesleyan College Alumni Board of Directors since 2006.
