A 54-year old Memphis man is listed in fair condition this afternoon following a fatal four vehicle crash last night in Knox County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports Joseph R. Fulk of Memphis was flown by Air Evac to University Hospital in Columbia following a four vehicle pileup that killed a 37 year old Kirksville Missouri man. The accident happened around 6:30 last night on highway 11, two miles west of route P in Knox County. Fulk sustained what were believed to have been moderate injuries at the time, however hospital officials told KMEM this morning that Fulk’s condition has been upgraded to “fair”.

A 37-year old Kirksville man, Troy D. Lawrence was killed in the crash. 26-year old Joseph D. Shaver of Brashear sustained minor injuries.

The accident allegedly occurred as an eastbound vehicle driven by Hoover made a left turn into a driveway. The vehicle Lawrence was driving rear-ended the vehicle driven by Hoover, then crossed the road and struck the westbound vehicle driven by Fulk, head-on. Another westbound vehicle driven by 26-year old Joseph D. Shaver of Brashear struck the vehicle Lawrence was driving in the side, and the vehicle Lawrence was driving came to rest on the side of the road. Lawrence was pronounced dead at the scene by Knox County Coroner Jeff Doss.

Assisting at the scene were the Knox County and Adair County Sheriff’s Departments, Knox County and Adair County Ambulances, Knox County and Adair County Fire Departments, Knox County and Adair County First Responders, and the Air Evac Helicopter.
