Johnny Erickson 1937 – 2018

Funeral services for Johnny Erickson, 81, of Memphis, MO, formerly of Gorin, will be held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 25, 2018, at 1:00 P.M. at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Brother Allen Fitzgerald officiating. Interment will follow in the Gorin Cemetery at Gorin, MO with full military honors being provided by the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W Post # 4958 of Memphis, MO and two Honor Guard from his unit.

Visitation is scheduled for  Saturday afternoon, Nov. 24, 2018, from 12 until 7 p.m with the family present from 5 to 7 that evening to receive friends.

Johnny passed away Wednesday night, Nov. 21, 2018, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis with his family by his side.

He is survived by his loving wife: Georgia of Gorin, MO; two daughters: Terri Dobson and special friend, Jules Dixon of Erie, CO and Tammi Dobson Dale of Memphis; two grandchildren: Aaron (Anna) Dale of Memphis and Aimee (Collin) Shultz of Gorin, MO; seven great-grandchildren: Vincent, Olivia, Zavier and Sylvia Dale and Brinley, Brantlee and Bromley Shultz; two brothers: Oren (Celina) Erickson of Rutledge, MO and Ralph (Betty) Erickson of Gorin, MO along with nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Scotland County Antique Fair Association and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St.,  Memphis, MO 63555.

Mary L. Bennett

Graveside services for Mary L. Bennett, 84,  of Edina, Missouri formerly of rural Memphis, MO will be held Saturday morning, Nov. 3, at 11:00 A.M. at the Greensburg Cemetery in Knox County with Pastor Jack Sumption officiating.

Mary Bennett passed away early Wednesday morning, 10/31, at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL

Survivors include two daughters: Shirley (Chris) Thyson of Novelty, MO and Becky (Robert) Whiteaker of LaBelle, MO; grandchildren: Amy Whiteaker of LaBelle, Brian Ethridge of Kirksville, MO, Chanel Thyson of Fairfield, OH; great-grandchildren: Kaitlin Whiteaker of Quincy, IL and Cassidy Miller of LaBelle, MO; two brothers: William and Gary Stice of Keokuk, IA; a sister-in-law: Estelene Bennett of Vermont, IL; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

Barbara Mathes 1939 – 2018

 A visitation is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, 9/29, from 2 to 4 p.m. for anyone that would like to stop in and visit with the family at Payne Funeral Chapel for Barbara Mathes, 79, of Lebanon, MO, formerly of Memphis.
Barbara Mathes passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Springfield, Missouri. Cremation rites were accorded and a private committal will be in the Richland Cemetery in rural Scotland County, Missouri.
Survivors include her husband: George Mathes of Lebanon, MO; five children: Rhonda, (Brian) Lewis, Rick Newcomer, Cindy Compton, Ginger (Barry) Stott and Tina (John) Riesinger; 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; sisters: Betty (John) Wheeler, Dorothy (Bob) Hunolt, Karen (Orie) Muench and Verna (Laverne) Weilbrenner; one brother: Boyd (Jeanie) Bissell along with nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Melba “Babe” Mattingly 1932 – 2018

Memorial services for Melba “Babe” Mattingly will be held Monday morning, June 25, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.

Babe Mattingly passed away Friday, June 22, 2018, at her home under hospice care with her family by her side. As per her wishes cremation rites were accorded.

Visitation will be at Payne’s from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. with the family greeting friends.

Surviving and keeping her memory alive is her sister Velma Gress Wade, her five children: Terry Byers of Arbela, MO, Gale (Stephen) Longworth of Chillicothe, MO, Mark (Janet) Mattingly of Memphis MO, Steven Mattingly of Arbela, MO and Angie (Steve) Chance of Arbela, MO; 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren, plus special friends Gary and Pat Arnold and many others.

Melba’s favorite charities were St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or for C.O. P. D. research. Anyone wishing to donate in her memory can leave it or mail it to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri.
